Case Study: Jill had developed acute pancreatitis several years before she came to see me in my office. She required surgery for this problem and ended up being a Type 1 Diabetic. Her control was poor with a hemoglobin A1C of about 9.5.
She started the entire program of diet, exercise, and nutritional supplementation. Her blood sugars began to come down quickly and she had to start backing off the amount of insulin she was taking. After about 4 months we repeated her Hgb A1C, which was 7.2. Her endocrinoligist was thrilled and she has done well ever since.
Obviously she cannot come off her insulin because she is a Type 1 Diabetic. However, she is thrilled and excited by what she has been able to accomplish with some simple lifestyle changes.
